Unit Description
This unit focuses on reading and responding to nonfiction literature and applying a variety of reading and comprehension strategies. In addition, the writing activities require analysis and application of different aspects of nonfiction literature and an examination of its relationship to real-life experiences.
Student Understanding
Students will recognize nonfiction as a type of literature that deals with real people, events, and experiences and is based on fact instead of on imaginary events. Students interpreting and analyzing nonfiction literature will acquire useful information that may cause students to be more effective in their decision-making and in developing well-supported responses to text.
